Land of 1000000 lakes. I have visited once before on business during the near 24-hour "light" of mid-summer.

This second trip was in February during the snowiest winter for years. There was low cloud as we made the final approach to Helsinki airport so it was impossible to see anything until we dropped below 200 feet and there was this WINTER WONDERLAND.

Based in Helsinki, the Finnish capital of about 600,000 persons, it was intriguing to
witness a northern European city coping, and even flourishing, in the 2 metre deep snow. The images in the set seek to capture how beautiful a city can be in the fresh snow; but
also what happens when the rapid thaw comes.
