Starlings 10 images

In late summer, huge flocks of Starlings gather in to a swarm over one of the gravel pits – part of the local nature reserve. These birds put on such a fantastic show of ballet, coming together and then breaking into smaller units – never seeming to hit one another. There appears to be no clear leader, but at the appointed moment the swarm plunges into the reed bed which is their roosting place at night. From swarm fully air-born to all in the reeds takes less that 10 seconds to achieve. Then silence!
