Gardar 26 images

A Swedish sailor named Gardar went to seek Iceland, sailed round the land and identified it as an island. On his return to Norway he praised the land and it was named Gardar's Holme. The name of Gardar is common in Iceland even today. My pictures relate to the rusting hulk of Gardar BA64, the oldest steel ship from Iceland, built in 1912 and used for fishing in the Icelandic waters. In 1981 the ship stranded on the beach in the western fjords where its rusting hulk still sits today. The nearby Hnjótur Museum contains scale models of this vessel in its heyday.
